Magistrates are the servants of God, so Paul told them what to do
After Paul and Silas were sent to jail that night
The new Christian jailer heard the message with glee
From the magistrates saying Paul and Silas can go free...
And the jailer told Paul and Silas everything's turned out all right
Paul and Silas knew how to be thankful in every circumstance
In jail they sang with their feet in the stocks
even though they could not dance
But when they heard the message of release
They decided they wouldn't just go in peace
But rather, the magistrates understanding they would now enhance
(They would now enhance...)
Paul said we're Roman citizens and what you did was crude
Tossing us into prison after beating us in the nude
And all these things without a trial and in plain public view
So we're going to make you set things right in public too
As the magistrates heard the message delivered to their ear
They saw their situation and they trembled now in fear
They learned their proper station with Paul's help without a doubt
And they personally brought Paul and Silas out
I'm not saying some folks think they know it all
Just because they think they're holier than the Apostle Paul
But when they say a Christian can not tell the magistrates how to act
They're forgetting one little fact
