AGE OF FAITH © 1996 Hannon

It was the age of faith. It was the age of faith.
It wasn't so dark, nor in the middle of anything;
But it was - the age of faith

Augustine
Had insight real keen
Into the city of God
The Visigoth
Found that God was wroth
But His grace and mercy was spread abroad
Justinian's code
Hit the mother-lode
In applying God's Word to life
Charlemagne
Found the Saxons were a pain
And he battled to end that strife

Gotteschalk
Knew that all the Christian walk
Depended on the grace of God
When folks traveled far and wide,
They found the Gospel turned the tide,
Wherever their feet did trod
The "Wisdom of the Word"
Was what was taught and what was heard
To enable them to prosper in the land
They gave their tithes,
To Christian leaders who were wise;
And were equipped for the work at hand

The laborer worked 14 weeks a year,
Providing the family what's needed here....
Taxes were low,
And their purpose folks did know...
It didn't disappear in a wink,
But slavery was extinct....
The people generally
Were free from usery...
The "Hundreds" did increase
And with the Justice of the Peace
Village life was kept orderly
They knew the Earth was round
And freedom did abound
As Lord Action surely told
No, It wasn't so dark, nor in the middle of anything;
It was the AGE OF FAITH of old.
